Musings of a retired Mum

Well I was left to my own devices for two weeks as G was tweeting at the WHL (world hockey league) and doing what he loves watching lots of hockey.

The first weekend I decided to do a bit of gardening and landscaping with the help of good friends, first we had tea and a chat then the fun started and we cut down a tree. The tree was very large and blocking the light from my bedroom and also it was a very messy tree, it also blocked the light from my precious lemon tree. Now normally I don't like cutting trees down but this one needed to go and in the week it has been down my lemons have had lovely sunshine and are now growing again into beautiful big yellow ripe lemons yay. There is one big tree that still needs to be cut down as it is a category 1 invader so that has to go, but that is a big job so will have to wait a little while.

As we are now at the tail end of winter it is pruning time and this is when George panics as the bushes and roses get a haircut ready for spring, I will be attacking the flowerbeds soon and I have some fun ideas for those.  I have been doing the changes slowly and only move things or take things out of the garden after much thought, and the longer we live here in the house the better idea I get about what will grow where.

I have now been propergating twigs from my hydrangea and they seem to be taking root well, so I'm now on a mission to do the same with other plants that are already growing in the garden to see how that works. The next big part is the kitchen garden which I would like to put in proper wooden beds for the different herbs and vegs, now this is a bit bigger job as it will need to be designed in a way that it will work for the area.

THe next project I undertook was to finish drilling the hole in the shower floor of the flat upstairs, so we can finally finish that job. So in came the handy man to finish the job George started months ago and got the drill bit stuck, hehehe. Well success all round, we now have a drainage pipe sticking out where we need it and a very surprised and happy George at this point as he didn't have to finish what he had started and lost heart after the drill got stuck, win win for me.
